CLEVELAND – Delyle Larsen, 89, died at his home in Cleveland, Dec. 10, 2014. He was born Aug. 12, 1925 to Louis Peter Larsen and Mary Jane Ward Larsen. He married Loretta Duncan Feb. 20, 1949 in Clawson, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized two years later in the Manti Temple.
Delyle attended school in Cleveland through the 7th grade followed by his High School years at North Emery High School. He was drafted into the army at the age of 18 and served until March of 1946. He was a coal miner and rancher. He along with his brothers (and brother in law) had a ranch north of Elmo that they inherited from their father which they ran for many years.
Delyle had other interests which included serving on the Board of Education, County Zoning Commission, Castle Valley Special Services Board, the Chairman of the County Democratic Party, Cleveland City Council and Mayor of Cleveland for 28 years. Some of the improvements made while he was Mayor were Perpetual Care of the Cemetery, creation of City Parks and Ball Diamonds and larger pavilion, improved culinary water system, sewer system, paved roads, new library, purchase of City Office Building, curb, gutter and sidewalks on main street. Delyle served in many LDS church callings including Sunday School President, Stake Seventy President, Bishop, High Council, Ward Clerk, and Temple Ordinance Worker. Everything he did was with the thought of how it would benefit the people and what effect it would have upon them. This philosophy was applied to everything he did, whether it was farming, church or civic responsibilities.
Delyle is survived by his wife, Loretta Duncan Larsen; children: DeeAnne (Sherrel) Ward of Cleveland, Dana (Kerry) Olsen and Ricky (Debbie) Larsen both of Orangeville, Tim (Elise) Larsen of Orem, Kent (Laurie) Larsen of Ferron; 31 grandchildren, and 78 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Sherma Gardner, and a sister-in-law, LaRue Larsen, both of Cleveland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Cleveland LDS Chapel at 355 West 100 North, Cleveland. A viewing was held Sunday, Dec. 14 at the Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
