Last week Emery hosted swimmers from Juan Diego Catholic High, Payson High, Grand High Summit Academy and Intermountain Christian in a meet and the two Emery teams each finished second behind the strong contingency from Juan Diego. Juan Diego scored 85 points on the women’s side with Emery right behind with 72 points and Grand in third place with 59 points. On the boy’s side, Juan Diego scored 125 points to Emery’s 76 points and Summit Academy’s 44 points, the third place team.
Out of the 22 events that took place, 11 for the women and 11 for the men, Emery managed to come away with just two victories. In event one, the Girls 200-yard medley relay, Emery’s team of Madi Allinson, Kaitlyn Sailing, Laryssa Guymon and Chyanne Carter defeated second place Payson by just over seven seconds. In event 10, the boy’s 100-yard butterfly, Emery sophomore Daryl Guymon shaved 4.61 seconds off his best time of the season and won the race by almost two seconds and set a new school record.
Juan Diego won 12 of the 22 events but the Spartans stayed close because of their overall depth as a team. Grand High won three events on the day. The Emery relay team of Devin Willson, Kelven Childs, Levi Jensen and Nate Gilbert finished third in the boys 200-yard medley relay. In the boy’s 200-yard freestyle relay, the Emery boys finished second with a team consisting of Guymon, Dakota Wright, Wilson and Gilbert. The Emery girl’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Allinson, Kaitlyn Carter, Chyanne Carter and Guymon finished second.
Individual girls that swam and placed for the Emery girls were Chyanne Carter in fourth place and Kaitlyn Sailing in seventh place in the 200-yard free, Allinson, Erin Oliverson and Tarryn Parkins in the 200-yard IM with a third, sixth and seventh place finish. Kaitlyn Carter and Paytn Jeffs placed fourth and seventh in the 50-yard free while Laryssa finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with Vivian Koo finishing fifth and Erin Oliverson finishing seventh.
Guymon also finished third in the 500-yard free while Chyanne Carter was fifth. Allinson finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with Lacy Hulse finishing sixth. In the final individual girl’s event of the day, Koo finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke while Kaitlyn Sailing was fourth and Hulse was sixth.
For the boys’ team, Alex Stilson placed third, Kayden Parkins was fifth and Zac Fauver was seventh in the 200-yard freestyle. Willson was fourth and Guymon was seventh in the boy’s 200-yard IM. Gilbert was third with Garret Stilson fourth and Tyeray Migliori seventh in the 50-yard free.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Gilbert finished second and Wright finished seventh for Emery. In the 500-yard free, Alex Stilson was third, Jensen was fourth, Parkins was fifth and Travis Fehlberg was sixth.
In event 18, the boy’s 100-yard backstroke, Willson finished fourth and Taigon Pulli fifth in the race. In the final event, the boy’s 100-yard breaststroke, Childs finished in third place.
Emery is now on the road until January 29 when they will host a state qualifying meet at the Emery Aquatic Center.
