HELPER- Our Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 surrounded by his family who loved and adored him. Dean was born March 25, 1940 to George and Alta Conover Nielsen in Ferron, Utah. He married Melba, March 19, 1988 in Las Vegas, Nev. They spent 26 wonderful years together. Their marriage was later solemnized on November 12, 2005 at the Manti Temple.
Dean was a long time resident and business owner in Helper. He served on the Helper City Fire Department for 50 years and was an honorary life member of the Price Elks Lodge #1550. Dean enjoyed golfing, spending winters in Arizona and especially enjoyed time well spent with his family. Everyone who met Dean loved him instantly. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survived by his wife Melba; children, Scott (Julie) Nielsen, Lana (Mike) Ponzini, Brent (Karen) Nielsen, Amy (Ken) Scott, Jeff (Nancy) Hamilton, Lisa (Kyle) Bundy, Judy (Troy) Mastin and Nicole (John) Yin; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; brothers and sisters, Don (Peggy) Nielson, Joy (Wendell) Dietrich, Kathy Nielsen and Garth (Christie) Nielsen.
Preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
Funeral service, Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, 11 a.m., Helper LDS Stake Center. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday morning at the church one hour prior to service. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
