Grant Max Fish

Huntington – Grant Max Fish, age 93 passed from this life into the waiting arms of his sweet wife, Gertie, on Feb. 15, 2015. Grant was born in Huntington, Utah on Sept. 16, 1921 to Charles Max and Lucretia Zina (Howard) Fish. He was the oldest of five children. He graduated from high school and served in the United States Army-Air Force during World War II. While stationed in California he met Gertrude “Gertie” Elizabeth Peterson. They were married April 23, 1946. The newly married couple soon moved to Huntington, Utah and shortly thereafter settled in Wattis, Utah where Grant worked in the coal mines for 12 years. In 1961, they moved to Layton where Grant began working for Hill Field Air Force Base as an Electronic Repair Technician. Grant retired from there after 20 years of service and moved back to Huntington to be close to family.
Grant and Gertie loved to dance. They spent many Saturday evenings dancing the polka and listening to old time country music. Together they enjoyed camping, fishing and being outdoors. Grant took pride in his garden and his ability to grow cantaloupe that rival those grown in Green River. After Gertie’s death Grant filled his time working on cross word puzzles and word search. Although they were unable to have children, they stayed involved with all the children in the family.
Grant is survived by his youngest brother, Larry (Delena) Fish, brothers-in-law Dean (Siri) Peterson, Clarence Quatier, and Robert Peterson, many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Special angels who so lovingly cleaned and watched after Grant, Nita Thayn, Lacy Wilson, and Crystal Thayn.
He is preceded in death by his wife; Gertrude “Gertie” Elizabeth Peterson, parents, brothers and sisters-in-law: Homer Bryce (Evelyn) Fish and Hugh (Leora) Fish and sister Jean (Ellis Leonard Mathie) Mathie Sadler.
Graveside services will be held at the Huntington City Cemetery on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 at 12 Noon. Interment will follow. Services are entrusted to Fausett Mortuary of Castle Dale and Price, Utah. Friends may visit and sign the online guest book at www.fausettmortuary.com.
