Ferron, Utah – Gerald “Jerry” M. Copatch, age 65, passed away at his home in Ferron on Feb. 22, 2015. He was born Dec. 16, 1949 in Boston, Massachusetts to Gordon and Ellen Copatch. He was a resident of Emery County for more than 30 years and grew to consider Ferron his home. After returning from Vietnam, he married Maureen Wright. The couple had three sons and later divorced.
Jerry spent over 24 years in the US Military serving faithfully in the Army during both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He loved his country, considered it an honor to serve, and was proud of his service and accomplishments. After returning from Vietnam, he continued to serve his country as a member of the 19th Special Forces and the 1457th Engineer Battalion. He was also an active member of Chapter 70 Special Forces and the American Legion. While in the military, he excelled in physical endurance and was recognized for his achievements. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, studying military history, watching military and western movies, and collecting things.
Jerry was extremely proud of his three sons, and had a soft spot in his heart for children, especially his grandkids. He was a generous man whose life was one of dedicated service and sacrifice.
Jerry is survived by his sons: Jerry (Valerie) Copatch of Phoenix, Ariz., Ryan (Kendra) Copatch of Las Vegas, Nev., Kevin Copatch of Ferron, Utah, four grandchildren, sister Diane (Angelo) Conti of Newton, Massachusetts and brother Glen Copatch of New Hampshire.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at 11 am at Fausett Mortuary, in Castle Dale, with a viewing and visitation an hour prior to services. Interment, Ferron City Cemetery.
