The Emery County Business Chamber hosted its award and installation banquet on March 18. The banquet was held at the Miller’s Landing in Huntington. A silent auction was held to raise money for the Children’s Justice Center and the business chamber. The meal was catered by Miller’s Landing. Mike Hansen from the Utah Coal Study presented a talk about the coal study and polled the audience to see what their opinions are on the coal industry’s future.
Shelley Wright from the Children’s Justice Center thanked the chamber for raising funds for their facility. The purpose of the center is to give children a homelike atmosphere if they have to be interviewed. The facility interviewed 24 children in 2013 and 20 in 2014. Wright explained the Family Support Center serves both Carbon and Emery counties and is a place where a family in crisis can receive some help. One time last year, a family was involved in a car accident and the parents were in the hospital and the children didn’t have any where to go because the family was from out of the area. They were taken to the center where they were cared for until their parents were released from the hospital. There are also educators available to go on home visits to assist families in the area.
Chamber President Jared Anderson presented the awards to:
