HUNTINGTON-Our sweet gentle, Phyllis Gordon Grange, age 88, quietly passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015, with loved ones at her side following complications of a stroke.
Phyllis was born Dec. 14, 1926 in Mohrland, Utah to Raymond and Catherine Johnson Gordon, she was the youngest of eight children.
Growing up, she loved music. Phyllis sang in school and church choirs from the time she young, even performing regular solos. She was forever humming or singing to herself as she worked. Blessed with a creative mind, she also enjoyed writing poetry and short stories.
She married Ray C. Grange on April 2, 1948 in the Manti Temple. She adored her husband of 66 years and supported him anyway she could, whether it was cooking a hot breakfast at 3 a.m., helping him with Boy Scouts, or learning to milk the cows so he could attend his church meetings.
Phyllis treasured her family. She and Ray were blessed with six children, 21 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was always willing to sacrifice to give them her best. She had a kind and grateful heart. Her life was devoted to service. She quilted, sewed clothing, embroidered, and canned to bless the lives of others. Phyllis was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and willingly gave time to callings in Primary, Young Women’s, Relief Society and Cub and Boy Scouts. She also served as an Ordinance Worker in the Manti Temple for nearly 10 years. Phyllis was a great example of faith in the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Ray Grange; children, Teresa (Michael) Whitmer, Denise (Steve) Stiles, Cindy (Donald) Mortensen, Therron (Estelle) Grange, Wendy (Troy) Mikesell, and daughter-in-law, Carol Grange.
Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, son, Kerry Ray Grange; and granddaughter, Hadie Marie Mortensen.
