Emery County’s World Down Syndrome day celebration

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on March 21. This was the second world wide celebration in recognition of those with down syndrome and their families celebrated in Emery County.
The event was held at the Emery County Recreation Center. Tiffany Sorensen welcomed everyone to the event and thanked everyone for coming. There is a website dedicated to World Down Syndrome Day, www.worlddownsyndromeday.org. The website is a good source for information. On August 21, Lagoon will be holding a down syndrome day. A pizza lunch was provided by BKs.
Rebecca Marchello introduced her daughter Isabelle Marchello. They are from Price.
Lance Riches from Green River enjoys swimming and running track in the Special Olympics. He has numerous medals he has won from participating in the Special Olympics. His favorite food is pizza. He collects Special Olympics pins from different states. He likes to write down license plate numbers. Lance likes people. He works at the Boys and Girls Club in Green River. He is the secretary of his Sunday school class. Lance received a Utah Highway Patrol badge from the UHP colonel.
Jaisley Jacobsen is from Rock Springs. Her favorite food is chicken and fries. She likes mermaids, singing, dancing and playing with friends. She likes to have sleepovers at grandma and grandpa’s house.
Jared Humphrey is from Orangeville. His favorite food is mashed potatoes and gravy. He recently got to go on Charley Jenkin’s travel bus. He likes country music and playing the guitar.
Justin Humphrey is from Orangeville. He likes to travel and eat. He likes to play music on the keyboard. He loves his nieces and nephews.
Mandi Bennett is the daughter of Calvin and Tami Bennett. She lives in Ferron. Her favorite food is Mexican. She likes the state fair, word searches and math books. She likes to watch Emery High sports on ETV10. She likes BYU. Mandi works at the Castle Valley Center three days a week mowing lawns and pulling weeds.
Jennifer Tuttle lives in Price and has two roommates. Her parents are the late Blaine and Geneva Tuttle. Her favorite foods are pizza and spaghetti. She likes to color, draw, cook and scrapbook. She likes to go out to dinner and to the movies for popcorn, treats and pop. Her sister Janet recently visited her and they went shopping.
Tait Levanger is from Wellington. His favorite food is spaghetti. He likes playing the drums, puppies and dancing. He likes to go exploring in the jeep and listen to classic rock. He is also stubborn.
Cindy Moore is originally from Missouri. She now lives in Castle Dale. She likes NASCAR, bowling, working out, embroidery and basketball. She likes the Missouri Tigers and Missouri State Bears. If you ask Cindy a NASCAR number she can give you the drivers name. Her parents are Wayne and Jean Pruett. Cindy won an award for bowling a 123.
Breezy and Brylee Sorensen are from Clawson. They are the daughters of Jon and Tiffany Sorensen. They have three brothers and two sisters. Brylee’s favorite foods are pizza, ice cream and eggs. She likes to dance and play with her dolls. She won the biggest showoff at the fair. Her favorite thing to do is go to school.
Breezy’s favorite foods are pizza, ice cream and yogurt. She likes to dance and play with her dolls. She won the biggest showoff at the fair. Her favorite thing to do is go to school.
Josh Bennett has one brother and three sisters. His favorite foods are sloppy joes and pizza. He likes riding horses and four wheeling. His favorite things to do are farming and taking care of cows and horses. Josh has competed in two World Special Olympics and has taken home six medals in the equestrian events. He has also won multiple medals at the Special Olympics.
Seth Smith is the son of Seth and Terry Smith of Castle Dale. His favorite thing to do is play with kids apps on his moms phone. He has two push button trucks. He likes to video with kids apps. Seth loves to watch people play video games. He takes a lot of selfies. He basically likes to push all of the buttons and look at the lights. He loves to play one, two three and tickle. Seth loves doing just about anything.
A talent show was open for everyone to perform. Breezy and Brylee performed a dance. Jared, Mandi, Jaylynn Lindley and Jaicelyn Shakespaere sang a country song. Tyson Sorensen performed a tumbling routine. Jaisley and her friends sang a song. Lance performed the Star Spangled Banner.
After the talent show Marni Levanger invited everyone to join her in learning a Zumba dance.
Tiffany Sorensen thanked everyone for attending the event. She thanked Gentry and Jessica for helping plan the event, Kent for the pizza, Jake and Darshell for the use of the rec center, Screen Tech for the t-shirts, the Emery County Progress and the Rasmussen’s for providing a gift for everyone to take home.
