The Garden Cafe is open for business in Huntington. The cafe opened in February and recently celebrated their opening with a ribbon cutting with the Emery County Business Chamber. Their hours are Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Menu items include hamburgers, sandwiches, BLT, turkey-bacon-avocado, club, reuben and many more. The Garden Cafe is now offering breakfast each morning from opening to 10:30 a.m. There is also a dinner special. Each Friday night is prime rib and shrimp night.
Tammy and Terry Oviatt own the new cafe. Tiana McElprang and Savannah Gressmen help out at the business. Tiana used to work for her Uncle Jim when he had a cafe called Riverside in Huntington a few years back. Tiana does 90 percent of the cooking. Tammy cooks breakfast while Tiana is getting the kids off to school. Breakfast offers pancakes, breakfast meats and eggs and omelettes. Tiana loves to cook. Tammy also does preparation work throughout the day getting ready for lunch and dinner. There are vegetarian and gluten free meals on the menu as well. Tammy said they buy all their meat locally from Ungerman’s meats and Magnuson meats. They use high quality lunch meats and hamburger without fillers.
Tammy said the floral and green house business are really seasonal and the cafe will help the business have year-round appeal. Tammy said her husband Terry will soon be laid off from the Deer Creek Mine, she hopes he might become more involved with the business. She really wants their family to be able to stay in the area, and the new cafe will help with that. They really love it here and want to be here with their family and friends. But, they see the need to diversify their business. On the garden/floral side they are offering seed and feed for farmers.
The cafe offers fresh bread and rolls, homemade cookies and desserts. They make all of their soups from scratch with fresh ingredients.
They don’t use anything out of a package. They offer healthy options, even french fries are made in the oven to keep them low fat. The cafe would like to begin catering too. They have packed lunches for area businesses and are available to do that and they will cater your event too, at your location or at the cafe.
They recently added breakfast and they tried the breakfasts out on a local couple before offering it at the cafe.
One special this week was pizza and it had fresh toppings grown in the green house. This summer they will add a large garden out behind the building and will incorporate more fresh veggies into the dishes served. They have a latte coffee machine and can do lattes along with iced coffee.
Tiana said, “I’m just trying to balance everything with the cafe and my family. We want to grow our business.”
Some items off the dinner menu include: chicken fried steak, hamburger steak, bbq steak, chicken and talapia.
Tammy said they have had a lot of support as they’ve started the cafe. They have five employees. They want to encourage everyone to come out and give them a try.
The Garden Cafe is within Gordon’s Floral at 686 North 400 East along SR-10 in Huntington. Stop in and buy some flowers and get a sandwich, you’ll be glad you did.
Commissioner Keith Brady from the Emery County Business Chamber along with chamber members presented Tammy and family with a plaque welcoming their business to the county. They cut the ribbon to officially open the business and chamber members sampled the food at the cafe. Phone number is 687-2264.
