A contract was awarded to Arrowhead Construction at the April meeting of the Huntington City Council for improvements at the city park on Main Street. The contract was for $28,058 and will include moving the main electrical panels servicing the park from the concession stand to the north side of the pavilion. It includes installing usable electrical outlets close to Center Street and north of the ball field concession stand to better handle Heritage Days concessionaires. The contract will move the kitchen equipment in the current concession stand in the park to the ball field concession stand which will make that stand the main one in the park. The current concession stand will then be taken down by city employees.
Councilmember Julie Jones then led a discussion on the cleaning of the three city buildings. The City Hall, the Town Hall and the fire station are all cleaned by the same company and the frequency of cleaning and the amount of the contract was discussed and no changes were made to the current contract. The discussion was more to clarify than to change anything. It was discussed that renters of the town hall may end up paying more to cover the cost of cleaning and operating the facility. Renters are supposed to leave the building as they find it but that apparently is not always happening.
A business license was granted to Family Dollar. The store is due to open within the month as they are finishing up the construction of the new facility on Main Street.
Councilman Mark Justice talked about the city construction of curb, gutter and sidewalks for the year. New curb and gutter will be installed on 300 South and 400 South between Main Street and 100 West plus the block between 300 South and 400 South on 300 West will have the west side of that block finished.
There will be some sidewalk work done this year but the sites have not been finalized for the year yet.
Mayor Hilary Gordon mentioned that UDOT is still deciding on the amount of work that will be done on Main Street between where the current curb, gutter and sidewalk end and 400 East. There should be some work done there this season.
Councilmember Julie Jones mentioned that additions will be made this year to the Veteran’s Wall at the cemetery and that misspellings will be corrected also.
