ORANGEVILLE – Dixon Mervin Peacock, age 72, passed away April 22, 2015 at the Beehive Home in Price. He was born Aug. 2, 1942 in Price, Utah, the second of four sons born to Mervin Lynn and Leah Wilcox Peacock.
He was raised in the small town of Emery where he spent his childhood exploring the hills with his brothers. He graduated from South Emery High School in 1960 where he was Studentbody President and track star. He married his high school sweetheart, Talma Ann Luke, who is and always will be the love of his life on Aug. 19, 1961 in Orangeville. The marriage was later solemnized January 1975 in the Manti LDS Temple.
Dixon was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a dedicated home teacher. Dixon loved spending time with his family especially with his grandkids. He was a hard worker and provided for his family by working construction and as a coal miner for 37 years. He held a variety of leadership positions in both management and in the local UMWA.
He always had a big garden that he shared with family, friends and neighbors and he took pride in a beautiful yard. He enjoyed making and refinishing wood furniture as taught by his good friend Ike Wissler. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing with his sons, grandsons, brothers and friends. He made lasting friendships with many sheepherders as he roamed the Utah mountains. He was often found wandering the desert hunting arrowheads and rocks for his rock garden.
He helped establish the Pioneer (Emery County) Museum in 1969 and served as its director and the director of the Museum of the San Rafael for 40 years. He was an Orangeville City Councilman for 16 years and served on the planning and zoning committee for 20 years. He was a 4-H leader and served on the Junior Livestock Board. His greatest accomplishment was being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Talma, children Bert (Belinda) Peacock of Castle Dale, Utah, Michael (Toni) Peacock of Nibley, Utah, Gary (Angie) Peacock and Tammy (Yory) Allred of Castle Dale. He has 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also by his brothers Paul (Carolyn) Peacock, Neil (Bev) Peacock and sister-in-law LaRee Peacock. He was preceded by his parents and brother Bob Peacock.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Orangeville Second Ward LDS Chapel, with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. A viewing was held Friday, April 24, 2015 at Castle Dale Fausett Mortuary from 6-8 p.m. Interment, Orangeville Cemetery.
