As the 2015 Utah high school baseball season winds down and the playoffs are set to begin. Emery, the two-time defending 2-A state champion, is leading region 15 and will host three other teams this Saturday as state tournament play begins. Enterprise High and Delta High are both 13-1 in region 13 and are tied for the region lead. Emery, Enterprise and Delta are ranked one, two and three in 2-A baseball. Emery and Enterprise will be in the same bracket as the playoffs begin and will face each other this Saturday at the Spartan field.
Emery easily defeated San Juan and Monticello last week by the scores of 24-4 and 8-1 and will have a final region contest this Tuesday as they will play North Sevier in a make-up game. Both teams will be looking forward to the weekend as both will host play-in games with this week’s game being nothing more than practice.
Emery is currently 11-0 in region 15 followed by North Sevier at 9-2, Grand at 7-4 and South Sevier at 6-5. San Juan is fifth with Monticello sixth and Wasatch Academy last. In region 13, Enterprise and Delta finished the season tied and Delta won the coin flip sending Enterprise north and Delta will host three other teams. Gunnison finished region 16 season with a 13-1 record and will host the other teams in the final site.
Emery will face the winner of a game between Rowland Hall and Millard that will probably be played on Wednesday this week. Both teams finished sixth in their region. Enterprise will face Summit Academy, the fourth place team out of region 16 in the other game. These teams will face off at 10 a.m. followed by Emery’s game at 1 p.m. The winners will play at the high school at 4 p.m. and the losers will play at Cheddar field in Castle Dale also at 4 p.m.
