Grand County Credit Union held their grand opening on April 24 in Green River. Everyone was invited to join in their celebration with a free lunch, giveaways and a drawing for tickets to Lagoon. The Tamarisk Restaurant provided pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad and the Chow Hound provided the cookies.
Brennan Knutson is the assistant vice president for the credit union. He said, “Grand County Credit Union formed back in 1957. It was originally for employees of the county and the school district. Credit unions are specialized for local work forces and that is how we got started. Over the years we have expanded. They brought in Texas Gulf Credit Union and some Potash employees. It expanded from there. We currently serve all residents of Grand and San Juan counties and Green River.
“We have three employees at the Green River branch, Mistie Bastian, Diane Smith and Donna Hatfield all former Key bank employees. They have been in the industry and are familiar with the community. They are ready to continue helping people take care of their finances. The Grand County Credit Union slogan is, for people and not for profit. Our board of directors are all volunteers from the communities we live in. We saw a need in Green River and our volunteer board members wanted to fill the need and they pushed hard for us to open here. We are happy to be here.
“Our loans at the Green River branch are primarily unsecured loans, signature personal loans, collateralized vehicle loans, recreational vehicle loans and motorcycle loans. If it has a title, we will lend on it. We also have a mortgage program, which includes mobile homes as well. We do mortages. We do stick built and refinances. It is limited, but we do mortgages. We have an extensive lending portfolio.
“We are open Monday through Friday. On Monday and Friday we are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. We close for lunch on Monday and Friday from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. We are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our website is grandcountycreditunion.com. Our phone number is (435) 564-2100. Grand County Credit Union is located at 45 West Main Street,” said Knutson.
The Emery County Business Chamber hosted the ribbon cutting at the credit union. Jared and Jaime Anderson along with Commissioner Keith Brady and Mayor Pat Brady were in attendance to welcome the business.
