The Emery High Lady Spartan softball team played Rockwell on Monday May 4 in a play-in game to determine which one of those teams would advance to the 2-A Utah State softball tournament on Thursday in Spanish Fork.
Emery finished fourth in region 15 and Rockwell finished fourth in region 14 and the winner will advance to face Enterprise at 1 pm on field 1 in the first round.
Emery defeated North Sevier last week on Wednesday in Castle Dale by the score of 10-3 to close out the region season. Ashton Bell pitched 5 innings and Taylor Payne pitched the final two innings and the two Emery pitchers kept the Wolves off the base paths throughout the game in order to grab the win. North Sevier scored their three runs in the third inning.
Emery scored their first two runs in the bottom of the first inning as lead-off batter Kambrie Hinkins doubled to start the game and then Ashton Bell hit a deep homerun to right center field to score the two runs. Bell is one of the leading homerun hitters in the state.
Emery added a run in the third inning as Ashton walked and scored on a single by Carlie Robinson, one of three in the game for Carlie. In the fourth inning Emery added another run after Jacie Huntington got on base due to an error and Hinkins brought her home with another double.
In the fifth inning, Bell singled followed by Gentry Noyes getting a base on balls and Robinson hitting a double this time and all three eventually would score. Emery closed out the scoring in the bottom of the sixth inning with Skyler Sitterud hitting a single, Taylor Payne also hitting a single with Noyes getting hit by a pitch. Robinson then singled again and Huntington doubled.
Emery will play Duchesne in their final game of the year before Spanish Fork on Tuesday on their home field for senior night. Emery will honor the seniors on this season’s team and then play the Eagles in the final regular season game.
