Emery Town council meets for budget hearing

The Emery Town council met for their monthly meeting on May 13. A public hearing was held for the budget. The budget will be on the agenda next month to be approved. The budget will need to be balanced. The city will need to get some clarification on the Enterprise budget. The depreciation makes the Enterprise budget unbalanced. The perpetual care budget varies every year with income and expenses. The final budget will be discussed in next month’s council meeting.
The council granted a business license to Wildcat Rustics.
The Pioneer Days celebration is being planned and Councilwoman Corrinne Dalton is still working on the shoot. A theme needs to be chosen as well as the honored citizens for the parade.
Mayor Mistie Christiansen reported Rep. Rob Bishop’s public lands bill is set to go through Congress in June. We still haven’t seen the final language or maps of the bill. There needs to be continuity between the counties participating. There is a SITLA meeting on May 28 in Price. The Cattleman’s Association, Emery City, SUFCO Mine and the Muddy Creek Irrigation Company will meet on June 17-18.
The city will need a display for the county fair. The city will use the same one as last year. The Desertview Pro Rodeo is June 11-13 in Castle Dale.
Councilman Patrick Sundstrom will take care of the cemetery for Memorial Day. Councilman Sundstrom will be the interim fire chief until a new fire chief is assigned .
Councilwoman Dalton is working on the general plan and gathering pictures of former mayors.
Councilman Varian Allen reported the highlights of the CVSSD meeting. The planter at the park has plants in it. There have been requests to put benches at the park. The city will look to see if they have any in storage and get price quotes.
Councilman Wiley Pope reported he will be attending the LEPC meeting. He received the password to watch the webinar videos from the branding committee. The next branding committee will be on May 27.
Emery City will need to look for more EMTs. The next town council meeting will be on June 10.
