Forest Service reminds visitors fireworks are banned

By By

Many people spend the Fourth of July camping somewhere on the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Because fireworks are also a great Fourth of July tradition, the Forest Service would like to remind visitors fireworks are always banned on all National Forest System lands.
Thanks to a wet spring, fire restrictions are not in effect on the forest, but people are asked to be cautious when building campfires. Officials warn campers never to build a fire under a tree, and always be sure the fire is dead out before leaving it.
Most campgrounds are open, but some do not have water. On the Ferron-Price and Sanpete districts, Twelve-Mile Campground and Flat Canyon Campground do not have water. The water tank at Joes Valley will be filled and water turned on at the campground by the Fourth of July.
There is no potable water at Warner Lake on the Moab-Monticello District.
Those who want to try a new camping experience should try Buckeye Reservoir, high in the La Sal Mountains west of Paradox, Colorado. This scenic campground was opened just two years ago. The reservoir is full and stocked with fish. For more information call 435-637-2817.
