The annual budget and the upcoming Heritage Days celebration were the two top topics at the June Huntington City council meeting. The annual city celebration started off with the Heritage Rodeo Queen Contest followed by the Heritage Days rodeo on June 26th and 27th at the city rodeo grounds. The Heritage Days queen pageant was held on June 24. Celebration week begins with the Huntington City Park being watered and groomed in preparation for the annual event.
The annual Huntington city dinner will be held Thursday evening at the park with the Val Jensen band providing music. On Friday will be the annual ice cream social and entertainment will be provided that night by Utah musician Mimi Knowles. Knowles will bring his own flavor of pop/funk/soul to the stage.
On Saturday, Utah favorite Charley Jenkins will take the stage and play his favorite brands of country music. Shortly after Jenkins leaves the stage, Emery County’s favorite hypnotist will take the stage. The Hypno Hick will be amazing.
The City Council approved a 2015-16 City budget of $753,738. The following is the breakdown of the budget, general government expense-$237,060.00, public safety -$88,958, highway and public improvements-$156,100, parks, recreation and public property $184,620, debt service $87,000.
The Council approved new ordinance 4-2015 specifying that decorations and items not attached to the headstones at the cemetery must be removed after being on the graves for seven days from specific dates.
The City had an offer to purchase some city owned property on 400 North in the City but the Council declined the offer as it was below cost and the offer did not fit the previous conditions set down by the city.
The Council approved the purchase of a defibrillator. The Sheriff’s office just purchased several and the city will purchase the same kind. Councilman Jerry Livingston reported the Jaws of Life the City purchased finally has arrived at the Huntington Fire Department.
