Cleveland gets ready to celebrate July 20-25

Cleveland Town officials said, “We kick off our pioneer week long celebration with the third annual Family Pioneer Night at ‘Oville’ (Owen Olsen’s Pioneer Village, located at 305 E. Main, Cleveland). The activity will start at 6 p.m. on Monday July 20. There will cowboy poetry, wagon rides and a Dutch Oven Contest. So cook up your best dutch oven recipe and bring it to be served for dinner/dessert.
On Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m. there will be a 10 or 20 mile bike ride and also a sidewalk ride for the kids (parents must accompany their children on this ride,) please meet at the Main St. Park. Helmets are required for all riders. There are no registration fees and you can win prizes. Root beer floats will be served to all bike riders afterwards. Kim Player is in charge again this year, please call her at 653-2440.
The Family Barbeque will be on Wednesday July 22 and will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Street Pavilion. The Cleveland Community Band will perform at 6 p.m. There will be prize drawing for Boondocks tickets. A movie in the park starts at dark. The movie will be G rated. Concessions will be for sale during the movie.
On Thursday July 23 will be a 3 on 3 basketball at the Main Street basketball court. For information contact Rachel Hallows 653-2344 or Michael Taylor 653-2760. There will be a Night Run 5K starting at 9 p.m. The event will begin and end at the Main Street pavilion. Cost is $15. Preregister by July 17 to be guaranteed a shirt. On Friday July 24, the bike races for all the kids will start at 5 p.m. at the pavilion. The Lamb Fry will start at 6 p.m. and as always, the Lamb Fry is potluck. Someone will be calling soon to assign potluck dishes. If you don’t receive a call just bring whatever you would like. A few ideas… fruit salads, fresh fruit, any dessert, veggies from your garden, jello salads, pasta salads, just about anything will do. Please note that if you do not bring a potluck item the cost of dinner is $8 per person and $35 per immediate family. The price for dinner with a potluck item is $5 per plate and $25 per immediate family. We need and encourage everyone to bring a potluck dish. Without your help our lamb fry would not be possible. Remember when you drop off your potluck dish a ticket will be given to you. Give the ticket to the person taking money and this will ensure that you get the discounted price. Be sure and write your name on your dish, pan or bowl, and be sure to get it before you leave. Entertainment will begin at approximately 8 p.m. We have a lot of entertainment planned including the Griffins and the Cleveland Royalty.
Saturday July 25 will be the busy day. Breakfast, parades, ping-pong ball drop, games, races, lunch, horse shoes, and much more will take place as scheduled. The Co-Ed Softball games will start approximately 3 p.m. If you are interested in putting together a team please call Kristen Vose at 749-2102. Entertainment at the school yard will start at approximately 7 p.m. Bring your chairs and blankets and get a good spot for music and fireworks. Seating is also available on the lower ball field south of the school. Please stay on the west side of the ball field to give the required safety zone for the fireworks. Concessions will be served right up until the fireworks start. Fireworks will start at dusk. If you have any questions about the plans for the celebration, please call the Town Office 653-2310. Thanks again for your help making this year’s celebration the best one ever. Remember, all Cleveland Days activities are alcohol free events.
