USFS opens trails Hunt. cyn

By By

The Forest Service has issued a new order for Huntington Canyon that opens areas that have been closed since the Seeley Fire of 2012. All trails in the canyon except Bob Wright and Pole Canyon trails have been opened. The campground at the Forks of Huntington has been opened for parking and day-use, in order to give easier access to the Left Fork of Huntington National Recreation Trail.
Nuck Woodward Road remains closed to motorized traffic and overnight camping is prohibited in Huntington Canyon from the Forks of Huntington Campground to North Hughes Canyon for one-half mile from either edge of SR-31.
The closure order and map can be seen on the Manti-La Sal National Forest website.
Although vegetation has grown well in the canyon this season, the closure order remains in place to protect the public from falling trees, post-fire debris flows and other hazards related to the fire.
As always, the Forest Service cautions visitors to be weather aware while traveling in the canyon and call the nearest Forest Service Office for information on changing conditions.
