American Cancer Society hosted a Relay For Life Survivors lunch, and Celebrating Your Life day, Aug. 28, at the Castle Dale City Park by the Recreation Center.
Judi Bishop the local director has been with Relay For Life for Emery County 17 years and 15 years in Carbon County. She has been with the American Cancer Society 54 years and is a real trooper.
Betsy Winter was introduced by Bishop as a new staff partner with the American Cancer Society in Salt Lake. Bishop arrived with a van loaded with food and melons for the survivors. The food was quickly spread out on the tables with the help of Sally Walls, Betsy Winter and others.
Bishop said, “We are here to honor our survivors. We did not have enough people interested this year to have a regular relay. However survivors deserve their luncheon. There was a relay held in Price this year. Next year Emery and Carbon counties Relay For Life will be held on the same night in the same place. We hope this will give us more participation. This has been a financially difficult year for Emery County due to the loss of jobs hurting the economy.”
Sally Walls representing the Lions Club has for many years been collecting pennies for cancer. This year the Legion paid for a part of the survivor’s luncheon and was noticed with appreciation by Bishop.
Bishop wanted a special thanks to go to the following for the donations of food and other things for this luncheon, Home Town Market, BK’S of Huntington, Stewarts, Food Ranch, Fatty’s, Emery County Sheriffs Office of Castle Dale and Orangeville, Vetere’s Melons and Dunham Melons of Green River.
