Spartans split games on the road: ready for Dinos

The Emery High Spartan football team split their final two preseason games with Delta and Manti, defeating the Rabbits 35-14 before losing to the Templars 44-27. Emery will return home this week after having been on the road the past two games to host the Carbon Dinos in the region opener and the Spartan homecoming game.
Emery jumped on the Delta Rabbits early as they led 21-6 at the half and never gave Delta much of an opportunity to get into the game. Austin Allred scored on a 15 yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter and then scored on a 5 yard run in the second quarter to push Emery’s lead to 14-0 after Ashton Dieli added the extra point kicks.
Emery added another first half score as quarterback Zach Jorgensen completed a 31 yard pass to receiver Kolton Butler. Emery led 21-6 at the half. Dieli scored twice in the second half on runs of 2 and 5 yards and the Spartan defense allowed just one additional score.
Allred had an interception in the game plus a fumble recovery and Kobe Faimalo also came down with an interception. Allred led the way with 11 tackles and Bryce Dugmore had 7 with Kyler Stilson having 6.
The Spartans then played in Manti’s homecoming game and lost an exciting match 44-27. Emery fell behind 22-0 Before they decided to play. Emery outscored the Templars 27-22 the rest of the game.
Allred scored on an 11 yard run to put the Spartans on the score board and Emery trailed 22-7 at the half. Manti then scored on a 75 yard run to start the second half and after an Emery score, they scored on a 76 yard run. Emery added a touchdown on their second possession of the half on a 2 yard run by Dugmore and scored on their third possession on a 42 yard run by Allred. The Spartans also scored on their fourth possession as Kolton Butler scored on a pass from Jorgensen that covered 64 yards.
Allred gained 160 yards against Manti on the ground on 16 carries while Dieli gained 91 yards and Dugmore added 64 yards. Jorgensen completed six of 10 passes in the second half for 118 yards.
Allred led the defensive effort with 12 tackles with Dieli adding 8. Emery will host Carbon at 7 pm this Friday night.
