Working Ranch Horse 4-H awards dinner was held in Castle Dale’s City Park Sept. 21.
Dennis Worwood is the County agent over the 4-H programs. Gaylene Condor assistant to Dennis Worwood explained the working ranch horse 4-H program consists of a test from the state manual administered by Dennis Worwood. The boys and girls are graded on the test and their skills of sorting cows, horse neck reining, cutting horse riding, roping skills and branding cattle.
Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. in the Castle Dale Arena there will be the annual gathering of riders from all over the state to demonstrate horsemanship skills, of sorting cows, neck reining a horse, riding a cutting horse, roping skills from a horse and branding cattle.
The Emery County Travel Council has been supportive of this Working Ranch Horse 4-H program. They provided funds to purchase prizes for the contestants and saddles for the winners of each division. This will involve boys and girls from all over the state of Utah. Two belt buckles will be given to the top two winners in each division. The Working Horse Ranch 4-H divisions are Junior, Intermediate and Senior Division.
Each participant received a colorful feed bucket and in the bucket were a rope, a halter, a currycomb and a hooded sweatshirt emblazoned with the letters WRH 4-H. A few were also given a horse saddle blanket.
