Soccer defeats N. Sevier 5-2: last home game honors senior players

Liz Sprague is the daughter of Mike and Julie Sprague. She enjoys playing soccer, reading, hiking, theatre and debate class. Her favorite soccer memory is heel clicks with her team and bus rides to games. Her future plans include going to college to become an audiologist.
Kara Higbee is the daughter of Dan and Verna Higbee. She enjoys reading, texting, shopping, meeting new people and playing soccer. Her favorite soccer memory is traveling with and being a part of the team. She plans to go to college to become a nurse after graduation.
Ashilee Byington is the daughter of Daryl and Lisa Byington. She enjoys cooking, baking, soccer, theatre, watching TV and crafting with her mom and playing with her dogs. She loves being outdoors, spending time with friends but most of all family. Her favorite soccer memory is when the team traveled to Manti. After the game they stopped and ate and while they waited for Morgan to arrive, they cranked up the music on the bus and played soccer volleyball. She plans to attend culinary school and become a chef and own her own cafe some day. She dreams of one day meeting and working for Chef Gordon Ramsey. She would like to marry in the temple and start a family. She wants to thank her coaches for their time and dedication and her teammates for the new friendships and fun experience playing soccer with them has been.
Emery High coaches Erik Nielsen, Erin Hurdsman and Yory Allred said, “We would like to thank these three seniors for having the courage and dedication to play soccer this year. It’s not easy to start a new sport as a senior and these three have been wonderful assets to the team. They have started a legacy and tradition at Emery High School by being the first group of seniors on the first Emery girls soccer team. Thank you girls for the great soccer season.”
The players would like to recognize their coaches for their hard work and dedication to the team. The team has been highly successful because of the support and encouragement of the coaches.
The Emery High Lady Spartan soccer team will advance from region 15 to the 2-A Utah State tournament in their very first year of existence as a high school sport at Emery High. Emery will travel to play the winner of region 16 which had not been determined as of press time. It will either be Maeser Prep or Summit Academy. The game will be held at either high school.
Manti won region 15 followed by Gunnison High and Grand High. Morgan Hurdsman was the leading scorer this season for the Spartan team and she was followed by Sarah Swasey. Hurdsman scored 7 goals and Swasey scored 5. The leading scorer in 2-A soccer was a player from Rowland Hall and she scored 26 goals.
The winner will play the winner of the Waterford-Delta game the following week. The semi-finals will be held at Jordan High School with the finals being held at Rio Tinto Stadium.
