FERRON- Our loving husband, father, and grandfather, Jay Leonard Larsen (77) passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 28, 2015 in a tragic car accident. He was born to Leonard and Leola Larsen on Jan. 11, 1938 in Orangeville, Utah. He married his sweetheart Marilyn Christensen in the Manti Temple for time and all eternity on Jan. 25, 1957. Together they have five children; Don (Suzanne) Larsen, Kevin (Jeanna) Larsen, Sherry (Matt) Clement, Steven (LaDawn) Larsen, and Shauna Potter. They have 26 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
Jay was the first of eight children. He was followed by Ronald (Linda) Larsen, Earl (Sherry) Larsen, Dianna (Bob) Winward, Robert (Jackie) Larsen, Craig (Lynne Miller) Larsen, Gordon (Carole) Larsen, and Karen (Clyde) Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Craig), and a sister-in-law (Sherry).
Jay served in the Manti Temple from April 7, 2000 to August 7, 2014. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a strong testimony of the gospel. He taught his children and grandchildren to be hard working people and was often found serving others. Family was a priority to him.
Jay was a jack-of-all-trades; he worked as a brick mason, cabinet maker, camper and boat builder, and retired from the coal industry. He started with the Ferron Volunteer Fire Department in 1975 as Assistant Fire Chief. He was instrumental in building a strong department, a new fire station, and in getting new fire trucks. He even personally went to Michigan and drove one back to Ferron. He loved to hunt and fish. As his grandson wrote, “Grandpa loved hauling our elk out for us. He was always prepared for anything.” Jay had a love for animals. He had a special way with horses and was always found with a dog trailing his feet.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015 at 12 noon at the Ferron Millsite Ward Church Building. There was a viewing on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the same location. There was also be a viewing prior to the service on Monday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Interment, Ferron City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary.
