Orangeville City will host their annual Christmas celebration on Dec. 5.
At the November council meeting the council held a public work meeting with the following items on the agenda. 1. Rental fees for the Commercial use of the Orangeville Community Center. 2. Burial fees for city employees. 3. Emery County garbage tippage fees and or future garbage collection fees. 4. Marc Stilson and the Flood Committee.
Council member Carol Stilson attended both meetings electronically. A Foster Care Group was given approval for only adults to meet and use the Community Center.
The drug testing of Orangeville’s volunteer firemen was discussed and recommended.
Approval was given for the rental fees to be applied to commercial users of the Orangeville Community Center. Mayor Swenson said this is an effort to recover some of the costs of maintaining the Community Center for the public. The rental fee approved for commercial users would be $100 per day for anything over four hours of use in the first three weeks in a month the fourth and fifth weeks being free. For commercial users that only use the Community Center less than four hours per day their fee would be $50 for the first three days of use in a month. The commercial users would have to have appropriate liability insurance. The fees will start on Jan. 1, 2016.
A burial fee for employees was postponed until the January meeting.
The resolution for the 2015 audit was approved.
A Canvas of the 2015 Municipal Election was approved. There are 826 registered voters and 286 voted.
Council member Carole Larsen of Planning and Zoning indicated they would discuss driveway approach costs in their next meeting.
Councilman Kent Wilson wanted the public to know, Emery County will start imposing a fee on garbage haulers of $15 per ton of garbage beginning Jan. 1, 2016. Kent reported garbage costs for Emery County is $21 per ton to process the garbage that is brought in. The garbage and trash collectors in the county will soon have to start passing along to the citizens this increased cost of hauling garbage. It was estimated the increased cost would be about $1.60 to $1.75 per garbage can. Individuals hauling garbage or trash to the garbage dump if the load weighs 1,000 pounds or less they will have no charges.
The large roll off dumpsters positioned in cities around the county for residents to use for garbage collection will cost the city $15 per ton.
It was suggested the city could charge $2 extra per garbage can and offer senior citizens a discount if they apply for it.
Mayor Swenson said we do not want to make money off of garbage collection. The city just wants to cover expenses. This item will be on the agenda in next month’s meeting. Anyone that has questions should contact the city council members.
For the Christmas Party: Please bring a pot of chili or soup to share, these need to be at the Old Firehouse by 4:30 pm on Dec. 5. Dinner will be served from 5- until 6:30 p.m. A special visitor will be arriving around 6 pm.
