The Green River Pirate basketball team knew going into the season that much work needed to be done if this team wanted to have the success on the court that last year’s team has as they made their way to the championship game. Although some of the pieces are starting to come together, success as a team is still waiting to be had.
The team last weekend traveled to Richfield to play games Friday and Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center. On Friday the Pirates lost to Escalante 59-47 and on Saturday they lost to Parowan 40-30. The Pirates are still winless on the season and their record now stands at 0-7. Sophomore Jacob Cox is the leading scorer on the team with a 9.00 average per game. Seniors Jiovani Flores and Nikolas Shaffer are the second and third leading scorers with scoring averages at 8.86 and 7.00 points per game. The team this week will host Altamont on Wednesday looking for that all-important first win of the season. The team will then not play again until January 5 when they travel to Wayne High.
