Ira Wallace Hatch, 83, passed away on Dec. 16, 2015 in Price, Utah. He was born on June 5, 1932 in Panguitch, Utah to Meltiar V and Ella Cleo Veater Hatch. He married Margaret Elaine Brasher in the Manti, Utah Temple on May 27, 1961.
Ira was one of nine children. He was born and raised in Panguitch, Utah. He attended local Garfield County schools and graduated from Panguitch High in 1950. After high school he attended the University of Utah until being inducted in to the U.S. Army where he spent two years in Germany as part of a medical battalion. He continued his education at Brigham Young University where he majored in agriculture and botany. Upon graduation he began a 36 year career with the U.S. Forest Service.
Ira served on the Huntington City Council, Emery County Commission, Public Lands Council, Utah Cattleman’s Association, Utah Farm Bureau, Lion’s Club, American Legion, Utah Association of Counties, and local livestock associations.
Ira was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many capacities including: first Stake President of the Huntington Utah Stake, Emery Stake High Council, and various positions in the Young Men’s and Sunday School organizations. He enjoyed 17 years in the Manti Utah Temple serving with his wife Elaine as an ordinance worker and Sealer.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Elaine Hatch; children Margaret (Ted) Wells of Price, Utah, Joel Hatch of Huntington, Utah and Yvonne (Ty) Jensen of Cleveland, Utah; grandchildren Kenzie Jensen, Karlie Jensen, Holly Hatch, Kelton Wells, Nevin Jensen, Hadan Hatch, Ashlyn Wells, Kody Wells, Lainee Jensen and Brax Jensen; brother David (Vera) Hatch of Cedar City; sister Janet (Larry) Leatham of Ogden.
He is preceded in death by son Jordan Wallace Hatch; his parents; sisters Alta Yardley and Ina Hanks; brothers Howard Hatch, Carl Hatch, Arthur Hatch, and James Hatch.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Huntington Utah Stake Center located at 240 North Main Street in Huntington, Utah. A viewing was held on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Huntington 1st Ward Building located at 115 South 400 East, Huntington, Utah. A viewing was also held from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral at the Huntington Utah Stake Center. Interment will follow in the Huntington Cemetery.
