A rematch of last season’s 2-A championship game will close out the first half of region 15 for the Emery High Spartans and the Manti Templars this Wednesday night in Manti. The Spartans are looking to avenge that loss and to keep their region record perfect in that game against Manti. Emery leads region 15 with a 4-0 record while Manti is tied with San Juan with 3-1 records. San Juan had defeated Manti earlier in the season and Emery defeated San Juan last Friday night 72-61 in a game played in Blanding.
Besides winning on the road, Emery played Gunnison at home last Wednesday night and recorded a 67-39 victory over the Bulldogs. The only blemish on the Spartans record this season is to the Union Cougars on literally a last-second shot. Against the Bulldogs, Emery led 9-6 after the first quarter and 25-21 at the half as the Spartans could not shake their opponent. Emery opened up their first double-digit lead in the third quarter and led after the period 45-32. Emery blew up the game in the final quarter by winning the period 22-7. Koby Butler was a man among boys in this game as he made 14 of 22 shots including going one for one behind the arc and scored 30 points in the game. He shot 64 percent for the game. Koby also pulled down 12 rebounds and had a block, a steal and an assist in the game.
Bowdie Jacobsen scored 12 points on 50 percent shooting and had 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Also scoring in the game was Bryce Dugmore and Beau Roundy with 8 points each, Kolton Butler with 5 points and Zac Jorgensen with 4 points. Kolton also had 10 rebounds while Beau had 8 and Kolton also had 4 steals and 5 assists to lead the team. Jacobsen also had 5 assists. Beau led the team with 4 blocked shots. Emery had a close game throughout in Blanding. Emery led 11-9 after the first quarter and took their lead to 16-9 in the second period but the Broncos kept it close as they narrowed the lead to 2 points at 20-18 and Emery and San Juan were tied at the half 29-29. Emery won the third quarter 14-11 and then the final period 29-21 to win going away but it felt like a really close game throughout.
Koby again led the way, this time with 23 points and Jacobsen added 18 points to be the only two Spartans in double figures. Roundy, Kolton Butler and Jorgensen each scored 9 points as three other Spartans were close to double figures. Dugmore and Keaton McDermott each added 2 points.
Emery will host North Sevier on Friday night.
