Emery swim teams divisional champs

The Emery High swim teams hosted five other southern schools at the Emery Aquatic Center last week as the 2A Southern Division Championship meet was held in Castle Dale. The two Emery High teams were both successful in their efforts and won the meet. The Lady Spartans held off second-place Grand and won by the score of 318-260. Grand High was also second on the boys’ side behind Emery with the Spartans scoring 397 points to Grands 263.
The Spartan boys won all three relay races and four of eight individual races in dominating the meet. In those same individual events, Emery finished second in six of the eight races third in four of the eight and fourth in four of the eight. They also had 13 other swimmers that scored points for the Emery team. The Lady Spartans on the other hand had just a single winner out of the eleven events but finished second in two of the three relays plus second in an individual race, third in two other events and fourth in five races. The Lady Spartans placed another seventeen times in the individual races.
The single individual winner for the girls was Madi Allinson in the 500-yard freestyle. The individual winners for the boys were Devin Willson in the 200-yard IM, Nate Gilbert in the 100-yard freestyle, Dakota Wright in the 100-yard backstroke and Daryl Guymon in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The swimmers for the victorious relay teams for the guys were Taigon Pulli, Guymon, Gilbert and Garret Stilson in the 200-yard medley, Stilson, Willson, Zac Fauver and Gilbert in the 200-yard freestyle and Wright, Guymon, Willson and Travis Fehlberg in the 400-yard freestyle.
The second-place finishers for the guys were Keldan Guymon in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke, Willson in the 100-yard backstroke, Daryl Guymon in the 100-yard butterfly, Gilbert in the 50-yard freestyle and Stilson in the 200-yard freestyle.
Placing second for the girls were Allinson in the 200-yard IM and the 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Helena Celis, Erin Oliverson, Tarryn Parkins and Kaitlyn Carter and the 400-yard freestyle relay team consisiting of Celis, Shaylynn Rowley, Oliverson and Allinson.
Others that scored for the Lady Spartans were Oliverson fourth, BriAnne Bass fifth,Celis seventh and Rowley ninth in the 200-yard freestyle; Parkins fourth, Hannah Morris fifth and Shiloh Hayward sixth in the 200-yard IM; Carter third, Celis fourth, Rowley sixth and Sydney Terwilleger in the 50-yard freestyle; Lexi Johansen third, Brooklyn Potter fourth and Morris fifth in the 100-yard butterfly. Oliverson was third and Hayward fifth in the 100-yard freestyle while Carter was third and Bass was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle.
Johansen was fourth, Terwilleger was sixth, Potter was eighth and Reagan Sitterud was eleventh in the 100-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard breststroke, Skyler Sitterud was fifth, Harmony Willson was sixth, Parkins was seventh and Lili Peetz was ninth. Also scoring for the guys were Wright fifth and Jonathan Seely twelth in the 200-yard freestyle; Deegan Minchey third, Fauver fourth and Parker Stilson sixth in the 200-yard IM; Fehlberg was fifth and Pulli eighth in the 50-yard freestyle and Malone Moss was seventh with Parker Stilson ninth in the 100-yard butterfly. In the 100-yard freestyle, Seely was fourth and Fehlberg was fifth.
In the 500-yard freestyle, Garret Stilson had the highest finish for Emery in third place with Minchey fourth, Gage Jensen seventh and Allen Durrant eighth. Fauver was fourth with Pulli sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and finally Moss was sixth and Durrant was ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
The other team scores for the girls were Wasatch Academy 117, Gunnison Valley 86, Millard High 47 and Delta High 16.
The other team scores for the boys were Wasatch Academy 124, Delta 70, Millard 46 and Gunnison Valley 34.
The 2A state championship meet will be held Thursday February 11 at BYU with the first four events starting at 11 am and the rest starting at 2 pm.
