Lady Pirates defeat Pinnacle/Whitehorse on a three game streak

The Green River High Lady Pirates are on a three-game winning streak and possess second place in region 19 with just three games remaining on their regular season schedule. Last week Green River defeated Pinnacle in a home game 41-26 and then the Lady Pirates went on the road and defeated Whitehorse 58-40. Green River will travel to Monument Valley this Friday to play their lone game of the week.
Against Whitehorse, Savannah Williams and Miranda Escalante each scored 18 points as the Pirate team broke open a close game in the final period to win going away. Whitehorse lead after the first quarter 11-8 and Green River led at the half 22-20. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter for the Pirates to maintain their two point advantage. The final period was all Pirates as they won the quarter 23-7. Williams also had 18 rebounds in the game along with 3 assists and 2 steals. Escalante hit 5 three-pointers in the game. Justice Hatfield scored 7 points, Presley Lovato scored 6 points, Cassidy Bastian scored 4 points, Miranda Johnson scored 3 points but also had 8 rebounds 4 assists and 5 steals and Daniela Mendez scored 2 points. Against Pinnacle, the Pirates started strong in going to a 12-2 first quarter advantage and then won the second period 7-6 and the third quarter 13-6. Pinnacle took quarter four 12-9 but it was too little, too late.
Bastian led the team with 11 points and also had 7 rebounds and 3 assists with Escalante also scoring 11 points. Lovato scored 10 points and had 7 steals while Williams had 5 points and 8 rebounds. Mendez had 2 points with Hatfield scoring 1 point as did Johnson. Johnson also had 9 rebounds.
