With winter in full-swing, February is the time to visit one of the 43 Utah State Parks. The cool temperatures and falling snow allow visitors a new look into the incredible outdoor recreation opportunities available to them. So whether you want to try a moonlight snowshoe hike, visit an art gallery, try your hand at ice fishing, or participate in a Valentine’s Day hike with your significant other, there is an event for you.

Moments in Nature Gallery
Dead Horse Point State Park; Feb. 1 – 21
The Bighorn Gallery at Dead Horse Point State Park is exhibiting images by Utah wilderness photographer Chad Dutson. The exhibit features both popular and unique perspectives of diverse landscapes discovered throughout the United States and Caribbean.

2016 Wasatch Back Quad-fishalon; Events 3 & 4
Jordanelle State Park; Feb. 6
Rockport State Park; Feb. 13
Come out and have some fun in this unique four-park winter fishing tournament! The Wasatch Back Quad-fishalon includes East Canyon, Deer Creek, Jordanelle, and Rockport State Parks. Enter your largest measured trout caught at each event and the person with the largest total measurement wins.

I love Nature Valentine’s Hike
Antelope Island State Park; Feb. 14
The hike starts at 10 a.m. Meet at the Lakeside trailhead in White Rock Bay, near the group site. The hike is a total of 4 miles on a flat trail. Lakeside trail has beautiful views of the lake and the west side of Antelope Island. Learn about the wildlife on the island and their interactions. You do not need a date, just a love of nature. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Dress warm, wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Park fees apply. 801-773-2941
Moonlight Snowshoe Hikes
Wasatch Mountain State Park ” Feb. 19
Join us for a gorgeous moonlight hike under the stars. Hikes start promptly at 7 p.m. Children 8 or older accompanied by an adult are welcome. Sorry, no pets are allowed. Join us in the Visitor Center for warm drinks and snacks after! Pre-registration and payment required. The hike is $7 per-person and snowshoe rentals are $6. Cash or checks only. Check-in is from 6-6:45 p.m. Call 435-654-1791 to register.
Rockport Tagged Fish Challenge
Rockport State park ” Feb. 1-29 (Ongoing from Jan. 1 ” April 30)
Park officials tagged and released 100 rainbow trout in early December. These aren’t just any trout however; 10 of them are worth significant prizes. These prizes include: $3,000, a Klim Snowmobile Suit, power tools and toolboxes, Lagoon Family Passes and 5,000 rounds of .22 ammo. Sunset, Moonlit, and Nature Sketching Hikes
Snow Canyon State Park ” Feb. 5, 19, 20, & 27
Visit Snow Canyon State Park this month for a variety of specialty hikes. The Sunset Hike on Feb. 5 allows you to explore the twilight sights and sounds of the canyon during a 1.5-mile round trip hike. You can join park staff for a moonlit, two-mile hike on Feb. 19 and 20 to see the beautiful canyon under the glow of the moon. If sketching is on your list of things to learn, join us on Feb. 27 for the Nature Sketching hike for a new way to experience nature’s beauty.
