Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country: Past, Present, and Future
Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country is entering an exciting new time period in its 27 year history.
HFHCC was founded in 1989 on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a decent, safe, and affordable place to live. Since then, HFHCC has built six homes and renovated one throughout Carbon and Emery counties, with the most recent one complete in December 2013 in Wellington. We currently have a lot in Price for our next house, as well as some funding set aside for construction.
In conjunction with building houses, HFHCC has a critical home repair program known as A Brush with Kindness. This past November was the program’s second year anniversary.
During these two years, we completed 24 projects, directly helped 40 residents, and invested over $14,000 in the local housing stock. We complete these home repairs for low income, elderly, veteran, and/or disabled homeowners, who in turn pay back the cost of the project through zero interest affordable monthly payments for up to two years. HFHCC provides these partner families a hand up, not a hand out.
Many of our projects include fixing leaking roofs, replacing broken windows, installing new storm doors, general yard pickup, and building accessibility ramps. By the time HFHCC receives a family’s application, the project is typically completed to satisfaction within the next two weeks. We are always accepting applications for projects, especially right now for the upcoming warmer months.
As mentioned before, we are entering an exciting time period. We are currently in search of our first part time Executive Director through March 1, volunteers for construction projects, and community members interested in joining our Board of Directors.
We are also selling raffle tickets as part of our annual fundraiser, with prizes including 4 Disneyland tickets and $100 gift card, a two burner stove, a Ruger .22 Caliber Rifle, a Windows Tablet, and more! Tickets are $5 each of 6 for $25.
If you are interested in learning more about HFHCC, the ABWK program, any of these roles, or to purchase raffle tickets, please call 435-564-3330, email habitat@ruralandproud.org , or visit our new website habitatcastlecountry.org. We look forward to hearing from you.
