The Green River High Lady Pirates traveled to Richfield to participate in the 1-A Utah girls basketball tournament last week and their stay was short as they had difficulty scoring in the first half of both games that they played.
On Wednesday, Green River lost to Valley High after trailing 29-4 at the half and on Thursday the Lady Pirates lost to Milford High after trailing 29-6 at that half. The final score in the first game was 44-23 and in the second was 58-26.
Presley Lovato was the leading scorer against Valley with 9 points and Maribel Escalante was the leading scorer against Milford with 10 points. Lovato scored 2 points against Milford and Escalante scored 4 points against Valley. Also scoring against Valley were Miranda Johnson with 5 points, Savannah Williams with 3 points and Daniela Mendez with 2 points. Also scoring against Milford was Williams with 7 points, Johnson with 3 points and Mendez with 2 points.
The Green River boys will close out region play this Thursday with a game against Monticello. A loss in that game would leave the team tied with Monument Valley for the fourth spot and the two teams should have to have a play-in game to see who would be the region 19 fourth seeded team to the state tourney. The fourth seeded team from region 19 would face the first seeded team from region 20 in the state play-offs. That team is Panguitch.
