HUNTINGTON-Our beloved Rex Dale Maxfield, age 79, passed away suddenly March 4, 2016 at his home.
Rex was born on Dec. 29, 1936 to Helen Leola Robinson in Gunnison, Utah. Helen later married Weldon H. Maxfield and together they raised Rex and his brothers on California Ave. in Salt Lake City.
He often spent summers with his Grandmother Robinson on the ranch where she worked as a cook in Sanpete County.
Rex had a lifelong passion for cars that started with his first at the age of 14. Even though he could not yet legally drive, he worked on the car until he could drive it. His passion and pure mechanical talent were graced on many prized cars, beloved motorcycles, and later his 4-wheelers. This same passion and knowledge also earned him respect over many states through the years. People would travel far to have him work on their vehicles. He used these skills professionally as well, working as a mechanic in the Army, for Sears Company, Sheldon’s, Mountain View Motors and beyond. There were many times in Rex’s life when the kitchen was not just a place to prepare meals, but also became Prime Real Estate for him to completely tear down and re-build a motorcycle.
As mentioned, Rex joined the United States Army after graduating from West High School. He proudly served for two years.
On Oct. 10, 1970, Rex married Lois Elaine Wagley and on that day, he also gained three sons he called his own. Together they had one more son. Although they divorced, Rex and Lois have remained the Best of friends.
Rex fell in love with Emery County while visiting his parents with Lois and the boys and they moved here to better enjoy the beauty of the area.
Rex spent countless hours in the surrounding desert and mountains of the area. He loved getting out and finding new ruins, old sites, and just exploring in general with his brothers, nephews, sons, and grandchildren. He was endlessly fascinated with the history of the places he loved to explore and the people, both native and outlaw who may have been there before.
In recent years he especially loved to spend summers showing his grandchildren his love of the Grassy Lake area, and they in return loved their time with him. He took particular joy in his great grandson who even insisted in getting hugs from this gruff “Papa”.
Rex will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Rex is survived by his sons, Ross (Leslie) Maxfield of American Fork, Mark (Charity) Maxfield of Huntington, Glade (Janet) Longmore of Castle Dale, and Leslie Dale (Jennifer) Maxfield of Price. His Best Friend Lois Maxfield of Price, his brother Dell (Billie) Maxfield of Castle Dale, 17 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
Preceded in death by his mother Helen and Weldon Maxfield, and his brother Kenneth Maxfield.
