Mayor Roger Swenson opened the Orangeville city council meeting. Three members of the Orangeville City Youth Council and their advisors thanked the City Council for making it possible to travel Salt Lake to attend the Youth City Council Day at the Legislature with Councilwoman Carol Stilson.
Each member reported on their busy day at the Utah Legislature and the many things they learned. They then told of Senator David Hinkins giving the group a tour of the Utah State Capitol building while he explained the difficult process of passing legislation. Some of those in the group were Councilwoman Carol Stilson, Jessie Nicholson, Samantha Roberts, Ian Hughes and Mindie Nicholson.
Councilwoman Carol Stilson representing the Community Theatre requested and received approval for a $100-donation to the Community Theatre.
Mayor Swenson next presented the award of a clock to Tom Baltzer for his years of service on the Orangeville City Council. Shirley Baltzer accompanied Tom for this presentation.
A Public Hearing was held to discuss and approve changes to the 2015-2016 Budget. The State Auditors Office sent a letter telling the council they had too much money in the General Fund and would have to move some money to another fund to stay legal. The State Auditors Office suggested they move $9,000 from the General Fund into the Capital Projects Fund to correct the problem. A resolution was then passed to move $9,000 into the Capital Projects Fund.
Councilman Kent Wilson representing Emery County Sanitation explained his conflict of interest as a city service provider. He then addressed the council about the need to increase the garbage collection fees by at least $1.15 per garbage can to offset the new fees of $10 dollars per ton being charged by the Emery County Landfill starting March 1. Other cities are raising their garbage collection fees by $1.25. Following his explanation the council agreed to raise the garbage collection fees for Orangeville City residents by $1.15 per garbage can.
Leasing water from the Emery County School District for the value of the water assessment was approved. The Orangeville City Rules Of Procedure and Order were reviewed and grammatical corrections were made. A 50 percent reduction of burial fees for City Employees, Council Members or Mayor with 20 years of service was approved.
