*ABAJO MOUNTAINS:* (March 29) All San Juan County waters are accessible and fishable. If you’re fishing Blanding #3 and #4, try worms and PowerBait. If you’re fishing for pike at Recapture Reservoir, try Rapalas. Anglers report fair
fishing at Foy Reservoir using flies and spinners. There are patches of snow on
the road to Monticello Lake.
*BENCHES POND:* (March 29) The pond is still covered with ice and a blanket of
snow. The ice thickness is unknown. You’ll need snowshoes or a snowmobile to
access the pond. We haven’t received any reports from anglers fishing at this pond.
*BLUE LAKE:* (March 22) Blue Lake is currently inaccessible.
*BOULGER RESERVOIR:* (March 29) The reservoir is covered with ice and a blanket
of snow. You’ll need a snow machine to get to the reservoir. We haven’t received
any recent reports from anglers.
*CLEVELAND RESERVOIR:* (March 29) The reservoir is covered with ice and two feet of snow. There hasn’t been evidence of angler use since the last snowstorm.
*ELECTRIC LAKE:* (March 29) Except for the patch of open water around the mine water discharge pipe, the lake remains iced over, and there’s a heavy covering
of snow on top of the ice. We haven’t received any reports on ice thickness or
fishing success. You’ll need a snowmobile to access the boat ramp.
*EMERALD LAKE:* (March 22) Emerald Lake is currently inaccessible.
*FAIRVIEW LAKES:* (March 29) You’ll need a snowmobile to access the lakes.
*GIGLIOTTI POND:* (March 29) Shoreline anglers report good fishing with
chartreuse PowerBait, worms and wet flies.
*HUNTINGTON CREEK:* (March 29) Fly fishing is fair in the upper reaches of the
creek below the dam. Most trout are upstream from South Hughes Canyon.
*HUNTINGTON NORTH RESERVOIR:* (March 29) The reservoir is ice free. State Park Manager Jonathan Hunt says that most anglers report a success rate of about one
fish per hour. He says some anglers are catching rainbows up to 16 inches. On March 28, Tom Ogden and Perry Bunderson fished from tubes for 5.5 hours and
caught a total of ten fish with beadhead leeches and woolly buggers. Their
rainbows ranged from 11 to 16 inches.
*HUNTINGTON RESERVOIR:* (March 29) Huntington – also known as Mammoth Reservoir remains under thick ice and two feet of snow. The ice thickness is unknown.
There’s been very little angler use. If you decide to venture out, we recommend taking snowshoes, a shovel and an ice auger extension.
*JOES VALLEY RESERVOIR:* (March 29) The reservoir is entirely ice free and angler use has been light. We haven’t received any recent reports.
*KNIGHT-IDEAL COMMUNITY FISHING POND:* (March 29) This Wellington urban fishery
is ice free. Trout appear to have successfully overwintered. Anglers report slow
to fair fishing with worms and PowerBait.
*LA SAL MOUNTAINS:* (March 29) The La Sal Mountain lakes aren’t accessible.
*LOWER FISH CREEK:* (March 29) The outflow from Scofield dam has been shut off and the creek bed is dry.
*MILLSITE RESERVOIR & STATE PARK:* (March 29) The reservoir is ice free and anglers report fair to good fishing with worms, PowerBait and wet flies.
*RIGHT FORK OF HUNTINGTON CREEK:* (March 29) Except for the upper reaches of the fly fishing zone, anglers will find few fish and the catch rate will be low.
*SCOFIELD RESERVOIR:* (March 29) The reservoir is iced over, but there are large patches of open water on the north and south sides. On March 25, several feet of
open water ringed the entire shoreline. There was enough open water in the dam arm to accommodate some bank fishing. Ice fishing is not recommended. Chub meat
works best for bait, followed by nightcrawlers and PowerBait. Anglers are catching mostly cutthroat trout from 9″13 inches. Some anglers are catching
rainbows and tiger trout. Most rainbows will measure 13 inches or less. Tiger trout are mostly under the slot limit.
*WILLOW LAKE:* (March 29) Snowdrifts are preventing access to the lake. The lake remains covered with ice and snow.
