The Tavaputs District held their annual Eagle Scout banquet at the Museum of the San Rafael in Castle Dale. Bart Cox welcomed everyone. This year 20 scouts received their Eagle Scout award. A dinner was provided for all in attendance.
The guest speaker, Casey Rovels addressed the scouts and their families. He said, I was an active child. In high school I started running and did well in track and cross country. I won every once in a while. My last season in track I decided I was going to do something. I decided to do the best I could do in my senior year. I wanted to do all of the things I didn’t want to do before to be successful. I started working hard and my mile times started decreasing. I set a goal of running the mile in 4:30 and I did it.
The meet finals were coming up and I remembered someone saying to visualize what you want to do. I set a goal to run the mile in 4:25. I started doing it in class and every where else. As the time came closer for the meet I was nervous. I thought what if the visualization doesn’t work. I wrote the time on my hand and I thought about it all day long. When the race started I was in first place. I had to back down because I would never be able to keep up the pace I was running. I kept repeating in my head 4:25. At the end everyone was sprinting to the finish line. I sprinted too and finished the race at 4:22. This qualified me for the state finals.
When I was training for the state finals, my coach told me I needed to slow down so I wouldn’t get so tired.
I didn’t listen to his advice. I didn’t visualize or do anything that helped me accomplish my goal before. At the start of the race I was out front and by the third lap I was way behind. I finished with a time of 4:45. I didn’t do what I planned to do.
I have accomplished many things because I visualized them. I decided I could see my self as a teacher. I was a C student in high school. Once I decided to be a teacher I visualized what I wanted. I wanted to be a straight A student. Any advice I received I took it as a plus. I saw myself as a teacher.
I decided I was going to run a marathon in three hours. I found a coach and I listened. I started to visualize how I was going to accomplish this. The St. George marathon was my first marathon. I finished with a time of 2:42.
I hope you can look at what you want to do and think about how to do it. You need to meet people who can help you accomplish your goals. You also need to help other people along the way.
I recently helped a friend accomplish his goal of competing in 50 iron man competitions in 50 days. My wife was gracious enough to let me do this. I helped him much like my teachers and coaches had helped me along the way. He accomplished his goal.
Mary Alice Johnson from Elks Price Lodge 1550 congratulated all of the Eagle Scouts. The Elks Lodge provided all of the Eagle Scouts with a flag and a certificate.
The Eagle Scouts were presented with their awards. Receiving their awards were: Terry Archibald, Jeffrey Clark, Nate Gilbert, Daryl Guymon, Cache Leavitt, Nathan Potter, Ethan Shorthill, Garrett Stilson, Kyson Stilson, Tayte Webster, Jaxon Bradley, Logan Cox, Andrew Gilson, Bridger Ivie, Levi Olsen, Taigon Pulli, Jaden Sitterud, Kyler Stilson, Parker Stilson and Dylan Williams.
