The Emery High track teams hosted the Darrell Gardner Invitational track meet last week with the Spartan boys taking first place behind Logan Cox’s three first place finishes and the Lady Spartans finishing in third place. Paytn Jeffs had two first places, a fourth place and was a member of a relay team that finished second. Carbon High won the girls division and the combined title.
Cox took first place in all three sprints as he won the 100 meters, the 200 meters and the 400 meters. Jeffs won the high jump and the long jump and finished fourth in the javelin. She was a member of the sprint medley relay team that finished second along with Bayler Griffin, Camrey Johnson and Erin Hurst.
Other winners on the day for the two Emery teams were Tyler Olsen in the high jump, Chase Jewkes in the javelin and Erin Hurst in the 1600 meters.
Finishing second in their events were Raymond Brazier in both the high jump and the javelin, Chase Christiansen in the 3200 meters, Daryl Guymon in the 300 meter hurdles, Ty Funk in the 800 meters, Olsen in the long jump and Ty Mecham in the shot put.
For the ladies Bayler Griffin finished second in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters, Morgan Hurdsman was second in the 400 meters and Johnson was second in the 300 meter hurdles.
Other result for the Lady Spartan team included Johnson third in the 100 meter hurdles with Tiana Jensen fifth, Josie Funk fourth in the 100 meters with Hurdsman fifth, Belle Bowers fourth in the 800 meters with Shyler Griffin sixth, Funk was third in the 200 meters and Hurdsman was fourth, Johnson was eighth in the long jump and Skyler Sitterud was third in the javelin.
For the boys, McKay Meccariello was fourth and Jake Jensen was seventh with Lance Chynoweth eighth in the 3200 meters, Guymon was fifth and Mason Faimalo was sixth in the 110 meter hurdles, Funk was third with Christiansen fourth and Meccariello was eighth in the 1600 meters, Justin Jennings was fifth in the high jump and Ashton Rowley was fourth, Jewkes fifth, Kolton Butler sixth and Jaxon Winn seventh in the discus and Butler also finished sixth in the javelin. Rowley and Jewkes finished fifth and sixth in the shot put. The sprint medley relay team of Dalton Hinkins, Kobe Faimalo, Logan Cox and McKray Duncan was fourth and 4×400 relay team consisting of Funk, Garrett Stilson, Keldon Guymon and Daryl Guymon was third.
The track team will be at Gunnison this week and at Carbon on April 30th.
The BYU Invitational is the first week of May followed by the region meet and the state meet.
