EHS honor students: graduation night Thurs.

Emery High Graduation will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Emery High auditorium. The graduation speakers include: Honor students: Alexa Cook, Travis Fehlberg, Ethan Shorthill and Salutatorian Shem Guymon. The 2016 Valdictorian is Camrey Johnson.
Alexa Cook was the Math sterling scholar runner up. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and has an ACT composite score of 30. She has taken multiple advanced placement and concurrent enrollment courses and has been in every honors class offered at Emery High. She is involved in the peer tutoring program as both a math tutor and the student coordinator. She also took part in the summer math tutoring program at Huntington Elementary. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She organized the math club where she currently serves as president. She played the baritone saxophone in concert band and lettered in pep band two years in a row. She attended Engineering State at Utah State University where she received a scholarship. She is involved in her community by participating in numerous service projects. She is the daughter of Brent and Kori Cook.
Camrey Johnson was the Science Sterling Scholar winner. She maintains a 4.0 GPA and has taken all available Honors and AP classes that Emery High School has offered. She is the President for both the National Honor Society and Science clubs at Emery High. She was also elected as a Studentbody Social Committee Member. She received Academic All-State recognition for volleyball, basketball, and track as well as serving as the girls basketball captain. As part of a work study program, the she spent much of her time at Pro-rehab Physical Therapy interning for Scott Labrum and has spent time job shadowing at Castleview Hospital. She is involved in FBLA and served on seminary council. She is very involved with her community having worked on various service projects around the county and being a voting member on Orangeville’s Youth City Council. She is the daughter of Doug and Tracey Johnson.
Travis Fehlberg was the World Languages category winner at Sterling Scholar. He was awarded Outstanding Spanish Student his ninth grade year, is an Expert Tutor, and serves as a Spanish Teacher’s Aide. He maintains a 4.0 and is President of the Emery High Culture Club. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of the National Honor Society, and Co-Mayor of the Huntington Youth City Council of which he has organized several city events. He is active in athletics and served as Team Captain for the Cross Country Team, and Co-Captain of the Boys Swimming Team, and a member of the Track Team. He is also taking a college Korean class, as well as having completed all the Spanish courses offered at Emery High. He is the son of Reed and Carma Fehlberg of Huntington.
Ethan Shorthill is the youngest of three brothers in the Shorthill clan. He moved to Orangeville this year to start a new adventure as a senior at Emery High. Ethan has worked hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA and has received the Presidential Scholarship to Utah State University in Logan. Joining the soccer team, Ethan was reminded of how much fun it is to play soccer, though prior to this season Ethan has not stepped on a soccer field since playing soccer as a young boy. Ethan has enjoyed playing and is grateful to his coaches and teammates for a great season. He is the son of Howard and Kalyn Shorthill.
Shem Guymon is the son of Darce and Peggy Guymon of Cleveland. He enjoys anything that has to do with animals and cowboys. He loves to ride his horse.
Shem loves to perform cowboy poetry. He likes to rope and play the piano. He took first place with his humorous reading at region. He is an Eagle Scout. He enjoys backpacking in the Bookcliffs. He is a member of the Honor Society. He’s been a good student carrying a 4.0 GPA. He does horse training. He will leave in June to serve a mission in the Virginia Chesapeake Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
