Emery track competes at state tourney

BYU hosted the annual Utah State Track and Field Championships on May 20-21 and the Emery High track teams participated with the Spartan boy’s finishing in a tie with Enterprise for the eighth spot with 26 points and the Emery girls finishing twelfth. North Summit High School won both the girls and the boys track titles this season with Delta High finishing second in both divisions.
The best finish for the Lady Spartans was Erin Hurst’s third place finish in the 3200 meter race and the best finish for the Emery boys was Tyler Olsen’s third place finish in the high jump. Raymond Brazier finished seventh in the high jump as that event gave either Emery team the most points. Hurst also finished sixth in the 1600 meters.
Also scoring for the boy’s team were Ashton Dieli in both hurdle races as Dieli finished eighth in the 110 meter hurdles and seventh in the 300 meter hurdles. Logan Cox finished sixth in the 100 meter race and Ty Mecham finished fourth in the shot put and Brazier was fifth in the javelin. The 4×100 relay team of Brazier, Dieli, Olsen and Cox finished sixth.
The three Lady Spartan relay teams all placed with the sprint medley team having the best finish of the day as they took sixth place. The 4×100 meter relay team and the 4×400 meter relay team each finished in eighth spot. The sprint medley team consisted of Patyn Jeffs, Bayler Griffin,
Morgan Hurdsman and Hurst. The 4×100 team consisted of Tiana Jensen, Hurdsman, Camrey Johnson and Bayler Griffin. The 4×400 team consisted of Josie Funk, Belle Bowers, Shyler Griffin and Brooke Jensen.
Also placing individually for the Lady Spartans were Bayler Griffin in the 100 meter race and Patyn Jeffs in the high jump. Griffin finished sixth and Jeffs finished fifth this season.
Also qualifying for state at the region meet but not placing were Tiana Jensen in the 100 meter hurdles, Hurdsman in the 400 meters, Johnson in the 300 hurdles and the long jump and Bayler Griffin in the 200 meter race. For the boys, Ty Funk qualified in the 3200 meters, Chase Christiansen in the 1600 meters, Cox in the 400 meters, and the 200 meters, Justin Jennings in the high jump and Raymond Brazier in the shot put.
