PRICE-Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Lois Axelsen Abrams, age 90, passed away at the Beehive Home in Price, Utah on Thursday, May 26, 2016.
Lois was born Feb. 27, 1926 in Kenilworth, Utah to Percy and Lola Gordon Axelsen. She married the love of her life, Curtis Jack Abrams, Sept. 3, 1946 in Elko, Nevada; later solemnized the marriage in the Manti LDS Temple on Nov. 11, 1977.
Lois was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a lifelong resident of Carbon and Emery counties, and a graduate of Carbon High School “Class of 44”. She was a thoughtful, loving, and caring person. She loved to serve others. Lois always welcomed new neighbors with something homemade (a loaf of bread, a casserole, etc.) and she also loved to present family and friends with homemade candy for the holidays. She was always prepared with food, love and lodging when necessary; and her home was always warm and inviting, and a safe haven in times of need. She was a dear friend, advisor, and the best listener in the world!
Lois loved to ride horses growing up (and was pleased to admit she could ride a horse better bareback, than most of the kids could ride with a saddle). She also loved to play cards, skate, water-ski, bake goodies, and spend time with her family. Lois dearly loved her family…all of us!
She was also a tireless worker. She worked hard on the farm in Elmo with her dad and brother, Sheldon. She herded cows, fed chickens, hauled water, tromped hay, and whatever else she could help with. She later worked as a motel maid, clerk, secretary, and a telephone operator (where she had an uncanny knack of catching Sailor Jack in Port whenever his ship docked). Finally, Lois went to work at Western Auto and J.C. Penney Co. for several years, until she retired. However, retirement only meant that she didn’t go into town anymore to work. Instead, she worked to keep a nice, clean home, can home-goods, make crafts, babysit grandchildren, and, as Dad put it, was a short order cook for her children and grandchildren whenever they dropped by. Mom was a great cook! Things always tasted better when Mom made them.
Lois was a wonderful person all of her life. As Heaven celebrates her return, she will be dearly missed here!
Survivors include her son, Brett (Jana); daughter, Jackie; 11 grandchildren: Kelli, Shera (Will), Lee (Nikeela), Denise (Gus), Joe (deceased), Pam (Brandon), Alicia (Brad), Alaina (Randy), Brittany, Shawn, Lyndie (Casey); and 20 great-grandchildren.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Curtis Jack Abrams; daughter, Donna Lynn Kenny; grandson, Joseph Chris Abrams; brother, Sheldon and wife Clara Axelsen; sister, Rita and husband Volmer Oviatt; nephew, Kent Oviatt; and great-niece Traci Tallerico.
The family would like to thank CNS Home Health and Hospice staff, Symbii Hospice staff, Dr.’s Max Morgan, Matthew Brady, Sterling Potter and Cameron Williams, Beehive Homes’ owner-Richard Nuffer and his incredible staff in Price, for their years of loving care and service to our Mom!
Funeral service, Saturday, June 4, 2016, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main) in Price. Family will receive friends at Mitchell’s Friday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
