Rocky Mountain Power statement on EPA ruling on regional haze

By By

Rocky Mountain Power statement: on the ruling: PacifiCorp is disappointed in EPA’s action. We continue to believe Utah’s State Implementation Plan complies with the Regional Haze Rules. The result of the EPA’s action will significantly increase electric prices for customers without achieving EPA’s claimed emission benefit.
At this point we are evaluating all legal options in the best interest of our customers.
Utah’s State Implementation Plan complies with EPA’s Regional Haze Rules; has already been fully implemented; provides the required visibility improvements; and saves more than $700 million for electric utility customers, while achieving greater regional haze improvement than the alternate proposal.
The state’s plan had the support of substantive scientific analysis behind it and prudently satisfies the objectives of the Regional Haze Rules to steadily improve visibility in national parks and other Class I areas over time to 2064.
PacifiCorp will thoroughly evaluate its compliance options and will pursue the course of action in the best interests of our customers. Meanwhile, power plants will continue to operate to reliably and cost-effectively meet the needs of our customers.
