The joys of scout camp. Sand in your food, burned food, sunburn and fun. The Ferron scouts spent a week at scout camp. The purpose of scout camp in addition to staying up late and bothering your scout leaders you are supposed to earn merit badges towards your advancements in the Boy scout program.
At this weeklong camp the scouters practiced their skills at cooking and cleaning up as well as setting up a camp.
The merit badges they focused on this trip was the shotgun shooting, golf badge, cooking, wilderness survival skills badge, Indian lore, canoeing, fish and wildlife management and photography merit badge.
For their photography badge they did their paperwork where they learned the different aspects of photography and the parts of a camera. They then went on a walk where they took still shots, action shots, shots of wildlife, people shots and a scenic shot of the river.
The scouts were camped in Ferron Canyon above Millsite Reservoir.
One of the leaders Don Childs brought along his cannon and the boy’s took turns lighting the fuse which ignited the cannon and shot a bowling ball across the canyon into a blue slate hill.
The scouts cooked their breakfast of bacon, eggs and pancakes. They cleaned the grills and threw some steaks on the barbeque for one of their meals. One night a scout mom brought up some spaghetti for the group.
The Ferron Creek was a popular spot this camping trip as the weather was hot. They swam and cooled off in the water and ran the rapids by the seat of their pants. They built a fish trap but for some reason no fish swam into it.
The boys did some fishing in Millsite Reservoir and played a couple rounds of golf at the Millsite Golf Course.
Scouts along for the trip included: Trandon Jackson, Dace Behling, Briar Macerello, Tyler Morgan, Dallin Braun, Colton (Tina) Childs and Haden Bringhurst.
