Castle Dale City installs new sidewalks in Valley View

Castle Dale City held its July meeting and Brad Giles welcomed everyone to the meeting, noting that Mayor Van Wagoner would be joining the meeting later.
Harold Strong came to the meeting and asked for Relief on his Water Bill. “I was out of town for the Winter, and had a water leak while I was gone. I didn’t become aware of it until I returned, and received the bill. I don’t think it is fair that I have to pay for a water bill when I wasn’t here.”
Giles asked if the water was turned off at the meter for Snowbirds. Ignacio Arrien said yes, if they request it. Giles noted, “Our policy is to refund half of the overage amount if the bill is current, and the leak is repaired.”
It was approved that Strong pay half the overage amount.
Castle Dale City made a donation for the Emery Miner’s Memorial for $250 Dennis Ardohain gave the office staff the address to send the donation, and thanked the City.
Ignacio Arrien reported the fire department was having Fire School in Ferron. “We will train on live fire and defensive driving with a simulator,” said Arrien.
Mayor Van Wagoner said the Welcome Center is proceeding.
“We will get the glass door next week and then the brickwork around the door can be finished. The Cemetery Project is proceeding.
There are two rows done, and it is going well. On the Sidewalk Project, 360 feet are finished.
There is 635 feet of sidewalk removed, and waiting to be poured. There is 985 more feet we plan to remove and replace this year. We have started in Valley View area. The contractor is pouring every day, and should be finished in another month. When that is finished then the crews will use the new grinding machine to smooth out the smaller uneven sidewalks.
The budget includes monies for purchase of a new dump-truck for $13,000 and a new 4 wheeler for $2,000. I have narrowed the choices down and want the council’s approval to negotiate with the sellers.
I will also need a plane ticket to get the dump truck here, as there are none available locally. The board approved to proceed on the purchases, and approve a plane ticket.
Mayor Van Wagoner welcomed the new Ordinance Enforcement Officer, Jared Lofthouse.
He will give his contact information to the office staff, and they will give him the ordinances, and other things he needs.
Brad Giles reported the Castle Valley Special Service District has completed the scheduled roads on 400 South and 400 East, and the curb and gutter installation bid has been awarded.
Councilperson Julie Johansen said the Land Use Committee needs three more people before they can function. Mayor Van Wagoner talked to two of the people on the list and was turned down. He will continue to contact the others.
Johansen will attend a Crisis Meeting in Richfield this month.
Council person Weaver commented there are a lot of problems with loose dogs in town.
“I will talk to Seth about this,” said Weaver.
Mayor Van Wagoner reported the new City Hall is 16 percent completed. It is behind the schedule of 23 percent, but should still be finished in January. The flatwork that is finished will have to cure for a week, so it will look like nothing is being done for a while.
