CARBONVILLE-Janet Joan Casey Prazen our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away at home after a struggle with a short unexpected illness Aug. 7, 2016. She was born in Avena Township, Ill. to Louie Melvin and Gladys Daun Casey on May 18, 1938. Later adopted by her recognized father, Henry Ardell Brownfield.
She married Gary Prazen on Aug. 20, 1956, in Las Vegas, Nev. Beginning a love story that lasted almost 60 years of beautiful memories. She was the matriarch and anchor of her family.
Janet and Gary started their journey in Torrance, Calif. living in a small trailer court. Gary went to work at Douglas Aircraft, and they began to work their way out of tough times.
After a few years, they moved back to Price so Gary could help his father in the family business. Janet took an interest in politics and became active in the Democratic party where she eventually became co-chair of the Utah Democratic party. Janet would discuss politics rather than argue with her Republican friends. She was an activist for those without a voice.
Her crowning achievement was taking on the school board and getting the dress code changed.
Janet was an avid reader and would read her newspapers keeping up on world affairs. She was a great cook. She loved shopping with her kids and grandkids. She could talk on the phone for hours with her good friend Myrna Wallace.
Janet claimed some of her fondest memories were the times they spent on their houseboat at Lake Powell for over 15 years.
When Janet and Gary built their octagon house in Carbonville, Janet was there with her hammer and tools working with Gary. They built their home themselves, and it has been filled with love for 40 years. They wouldn’t trade it for a castle.
Survived by husband Gary, son Dan Prazen, daughter Mila Le (Bill) Sisneros, adopted daughters Heather (Greg) Schmitz, Patricia (Danny) Blanton, morally adopted son Charles (Leatrice) Adaleye grandchildren, Kristen (Ryan) Halazon, Kelly Prazen, Shamar Adaleye, Janessa Adaleye. Great-grandchildren, Leandra Prazen, Danni Blanton, Michael Schmitz, Gracie Ellis-Prazen, and Luke Blanton. Preceded in death by her mother, Daun Brownfield, and her father Dell Brownfield.
Gary would like to personally thank his daughters Patricia and Heather, for their help and support during Janet’s final hours. Also, thanks to Dan and Mila.
Private family services were held under the trusted care of Mitchell Funeral Home. Friends are welcome to share memories of Janet online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
