On Friday night there was a high speed chase between Castle Dale and Huntington. Speeds were in excess of 95 mph. Deputy Jeff Weber tried to stop the vehicle for speeding and it hid behind the Catholic church. When he pulled up behind the vehicle, it took off and headed back towards Castle Dale; it went up Center street and then down the Maverik road and headed north back out of Castle Dale. Deputies pursued the vehicle. Deputies spiked the tires on Huntington Main Street just north of the Village Inn motel. Deputy Weber initially made contact with the vehicle because he was speeding and the vehicle refused to stop at the flashing lights.
The vehicle was a white pickup. The suspect is a male out of Nevada named Daniel Kirby. The suspect was taken to the Emery County jail. Capt. Jeff Thomas said the apparent reason the driver was fleeing was because he did not have a drivers license. He was the registered owner of the vehicle along with a lady in St. George. Capt. Thomas said the driver was Daniel Wayne Kirby, DOB 9-13-83; he was evidently passing through Emery County after he had been in Carbon County picking up some items from a family member and he was headed back to St. George.
A small amount of a controlled substance was found in the vehicle along with some paraphernalia. Capt. Thomas said there were no indicators the driver was impaired. He will be charged with possession of a controlled substance no drivers license and felony evading of a police officer.
