HUNTINGTON – Keith A. Larsen, age 92, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016. Keith was born June 9, 1924 in Cleveland, Utah to Andrew S. and Mary Gladys Larsen. He married Joyce Gordon, the love of his life, on Aug. 6, 1943. Their marriage was solemnized Jan. 31, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 66 years.
Keith grew up and attended school through the Eighth grade in Cleveland, Utah. He grew up during the Great Depression of the 1930s. Keith worked with his father on the family farm to help support the family. He attended North Emery High School in Huntington, Carbon College, and graduated from BYU with a BS degree, and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration.
Keith spent time working in the C.C.Cs and the US Navy during World War II. His work experience included farming, airplane mechanic, service station manager, truck driver, coal miner, and the manufacturing of tires. He was a rancher for over 60 years. He was employed by Emery County School District for 31 years. He worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, principal, and school district supervisor.
Keith was a member of the LDS Church. He served as Ward Financial Clerk for four Bishops, Young Men’s President, Home Teacher, High Priest Group Teacher, and other positions. Keith served on the Board of Directors for Huntington-Cleveland Irrigation Company. He was a member of the Huntington Cattle Association where he served as secretary for 51 years. He was also a member of the American Legion.
Keith and all of his family were extremely fond of working on the Larsen Ranch with their horses and Hereford Cattle.
Keith is survived by his children Keith Gary (Michael) Larsen, Huntington, Janice Gay (Louis Patrick Jr.) Leech, Midland, Texas, Carolee (Kent) Keele, Castle Dale, Garth (Colleen) Larsen, Cedar City, Robert Kurt (Becky) Larsen, Ferron, and Blair J (Maurdi Ray) Larsen, Huntington; brother, Ronald (Marilyn) Larsen, Lehi; brothers-in-law, Ross V (Reva) Gordon and Richard Brent (Hilary) Gordon both of Huntington; 27 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Gordon Larsen; his parents, Andrew Smith Larsen and Mary Gladys Larson Larsen; his sister, Cheryl Mae Larsen Massey; father and mother-in-law, Vaughn Gordon and Clara Elizabeth Staker Gordon; grandsons Travis Vaughn Larsen and Terry Andrew Larsen; great grandson, Skylar Jeffs; great granddaughter, Desaray Wingo.
A viewing was held Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 6 – 8 p.m. at the Huntington Stake Center. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 15, 2016 at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors at the Huntington City Cemetery entrusted to Fausett Mortuary of Emery County.
