Ceremony to honor Vietnam Veterans on Saturday

Ferron Peach Days will celebrate the Vietnam Veteran at their annual Peach Days Event.
Recently throughout the state there have been Vietnam Veteran Recognition Ceremonies. Lou Sansevero, a Vietnam Veteran himself has worked to get one of these ceremonies to Southeastern Utah. This recognition is for all Vietnam Era Veterans (28 February 1961 – 7 May 1975 for Veterans who served during this time; this event throughout the state is to honor all veterans who served during the Vietnam War both in “country” and in other parts of the world.
Vietnam Veterans from around Southeastern Utah have been invited to attend the event on Sept. 10 in Ferron. All Veterans will be treated to a breakfast provided by the Ferron Fire Department beginning at 7-9 a.m. at the fire station. They are invited to ride on a float which is being prepared for them for the Peach Days parade beginning at the Ferron Care Center.
After the parade the Field of Flags Vietnam Recognition event will take place at 11 a.m. This program will include Veteran speakers from around the region. Musical numbers have been prepared for the event. The National Anthem will be sung by Jennifer Nicole Marco. Gov. Gary Herbert will be the keynote speaker at the event. Sen. David Hinkins will also be in attendance.
All the Vietnam Veterans will receive a pin, commemorative medallion and the 50th anniversary book and the video “Long Journey Home.” The spouses of the Veterans will receive a pin and a flower.
Everyone is invited to come and participate in this ceremony to give these Veterans the recognition they didn’t receive when they arrived home from the Vietnam War.
