Incident in Huntington causes concern for childrens’ safety

By PATSY STODDARD Editor

In Huntington last week there was an incident where a man approached two children on bikes. He gave them his business card and asked them if they wanted to join his police department. He then asked them if they wanted to go for a bike ride.
Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk said the suspect was questioned by deputies. The incident is under investigation and has been turned over to the Emery County Attorney for screening. They will determine if any charges will be filed in the incident.
There was no force involved in the incident. Deputies interviewed the subject after the incident at his residence. He was not arrested at that time. The subject appears to be mentally unstable and it has not been determined at this time if anything criminal took place.
Sheriff Funk warns parents to always know where their children are and what they are doing. “It is a good time to talk to them about stranger danger and what to do if they are approached by someone and asked to go with them. Teach your children the skills they need to stay safe in these situations. Make sure you report anything suspicious to the sheriff’s office at 381-2404.” said Sheriff Funk.
