City improvements and celebrations and events were the highlights of the September Huntington City Council meeting. The City Christmas party will be held Thursday December 1st at the Huntington fire station. The Party will feature various soups for all and of course Santa for all the kids. Mayor
Hilary Gordon mentioned that fun will be had by all and all are invited.
Councilman Lamar Guymon reported that in the just completed Little Grand Canyon marathon that there were 225 participants that ran one of the various races. One could run the full marathon, a half marathon or a 10K. All races finished at the bridge over the San Rafael.
Guymon mentioned that the upcoming Bike Festival has 65 participants as of the time of the council meeting. Councilman Mark Justice mentioned the Broncs and Bulls event at the Huntington Rodeo grounds.
As far as City improvements go, Wall contractors got the bid for this year’s sidewalk project and they are finishing the contract now with sidewalk going in along south Main Street. Wall won the bid over B Hansen Construction and Double EE construction. The City will also use money received from the Beehive Drive when the cars came to town to further improve the city park. Wall Contractors will pour a concrete sidewalk from the concession stand to the pavilion concrete.
Huntington City is also looking at replacing countertops in the city offices and in the Council chambers. Bids have been received for granite countertops and concrete countertops and the city will seek Corian material countertop bids as they contemplate the direction that they will go. Huntington City is also debating the purchase of a salt spreader for winter use and a trailer to haul the City’s lawn maintenance equipment.
In public comments, resident Bob Mills asked as to why residents cannot pay a year in advance for their water bills and City treasurer Ronni Torre responded with the reasons why not but said that people can pay six months in advance.
The Mayor reported that some of the people residing up Huntington Canyon wish to move their water connections from Huntington City water to North Emery water users. North Emery water would have a higher pressure.
Huntington and North Emery have agreed on the transfer and Huntington City will transfer some water shares to North Emery.
Councilperson Laneea Cowley reported that the City will plant some trees along South Main with some local youth groups doing the work. Councilman
Justice reported that the horse walker at the rodeo grounds will soon be operational. Councilman Leonard Norton reported that the Huntington City trash transfer site is having all branches removed and the facility cleaned.
